Construction of a new factory starts in Poti Free Industrial Zone. Production is fully focused on export and employment of the local workforce. The plant is being built by a company registered in Poti FIZ, SDT Georgia LLC, the beneficiary of which is Giacomo Zammattio, a businessman who owns similar factories in China (Suzhou) and Italy (Milan).
The plant is being built on a 5,000 square meter land plot in Poti, where different types of automotive components will be cast from Georgian and foreign raw materials: aluminium and zinc. The product will be exported to EU countries, China, the US and Mexico. In the first year of production, it is planned to export components worth up to the US $ 5 million, the volume of which will increase annually.
In the first phase, the plant will employ about 60 local workers, with the number expected to increase up to 100 employees by 2021. Factory workers will receive special training at a similar factory in Suzhou, China. The company has already sent the first group for the training, with the second group scheduled for April 2020.
Construction of the factory will begin in January 2020 and end in September 2020. Construction of the factory is carried out by Ecohouse FIZ LLC.
“The plant is being built with an Italian-Chinese investment estimated at GEL 12 million,” said Manav Kumar, CEO of SDT Georgia.
“The goal of the Poti FIZ team is to transform the Poti Free Industrial Zone into a regional manufacturing hub where various types of Georgian products will be created and exported and local workers will be employed,” said David Ebralidze, General Director of Poti FIZ. “It is important for us that very soon a whole new product will be added to the list of Georgian export products and this product is automotive components, which will be manufactured in Poti Free Industrial Zone, which in turn will help to attract other productions related to this production and employ more people nationwide,” – David Ebralidze stated.
On January 22, Poti Free Industrial Zone hosted an event to celebrate the start of construction and underpinning of an Automotive Component Factory, attended by Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Deputy State Attorney David Partsvania, Mayor of Poti Gocha Kurdghelia, General Director of Poti Free Industrial Zone David Ebralidze, Poti FIZ Chief Investment Officer Tamar Sakheishvili, Founder of SDT Georgia Giacomo Zammattio and General Director Manav Kumar, invited guests and media representatives.
